Chiapas Journey 4 {giving thanks}

{thoughts from a travel journal}   Each Tuesday this month, we have featured pieces of Rebecca's trip with her family to Chiapas, Mexico. From visiting the Melel Xojobal organization to sharing a new experience with her boys, these entries illustrate the empathy, compassion, and hope you have helped create through your support.   In an earlier post I talked a bit about what I hoped my children would retain from our trip to Chiapas, particularily how they'd feel interacting with children their age with very different life stories.  In the end, I know that I am truly blessed with this opportunity to serve the greater good through the donation of 10%  CID and FWM proceeds. Chiapas Journey 3 {absorbing art & beauty}

{thoughts from a travel journal}   A few months ago, Rebecca of CID and FWM took a trip with her family to Mexico. Their wish to experience how the companies' donations assist the Melel Xojobal Organization was exceeded by much more. Not only was their learning about another culture, but there was profound appreciation. Her thoughts on the art and color of Mexico illustrate this.    As far as textiles go, I believe everything amazing and beautiful comes from Chiapas, Mexico.  I love everything about the colorful handmade woven textiles created by women with generations of history behind them.  It's truly a region of some of the most talented weavers and embroiderers in the world.   And what artist would...

Chiapas Journey 2 {travel with kids}

{thoughts from a travel journal} Contributing support to organizations like Melel Xojobal in Chiapas, Mexico is one of the things CID and FWM treasures most. Part of her journey was sharing it with her two sons. She writes her observations as a mom here. I brought my children, ages nine and six, on our trip to San Cristobal for two reasons. First, I think it is very important for them to understand the work that their mom does. I need for them to grow up believing that giving, either big or small, is second nature to...

Chiapas Journey I {the visit to Melel}

{thoughts from travel journal} Last week, we shared our video of how FWM and CID efforts along with your help assisted families in Chiapas, Mexico. Each Tuesday this month, we will offer a glimpse of the journey first-hand from Rebecca's travel experiences to paint a picture of where your support has reached. Enjoy. Our visit to Melel Xojobal began with a beautiful and scenic hour drive from the airport up the mountaintops of Chiapas, Mexico. After an hour of winding inclines, we arrived and I was immediately absorbed in the colors and architecture of the city. Old colonial structures, washed out walls, vibrant fabrics with bright colors used in traditional Mayan weaving and embroidery all created an admirable richness. The...
