Decor as easy as A,B,C

Written by contributing blogger, Christine Martin.  Using the alphabet is a simple way to add color and style to a child's bedroom. Not to mention a good source of teaching. Whether in old school block print or accompanied by animal images, these are mini works of art. There are a variety of ideas on how to hang them. 1. Glue them all together on a mat and hang them in a large frame.  2. Frame each individually with a simple frame that unifies them.  3. Hang thin rope or ribbon and clip each A,B,C with a clothespin.  4. Use stencils to paint them on a large wall or stick on decals.  5. Use a wall adhesive that will not peel...

Mapping out decor

Using maps as decor is trending in a big way. They are not only beautiful and relevant, but they provide opportunities for learning and curiosity. Framing a country map your family's lineage, hanging a large shower curtain map in the bathroom, or laying out a stylish map rug (preferably something other than what you'd see in  classrooms), are ways to add an interesting element to space design for a child's bedroom or play room.  {image credits: a,b,c,d}

Inspire reading {the nook}

Written by contributing blogger, Christine Martin.  Recently, I was captivated by the setting of Moonrise Kingdom. This Wes Anderson film is quirky and enchanting and full of great interiors! The reoccuring scene of Suzy and her brothers at home in their reading nook represents the quintessential 1960's youth spending their free time listening to music guides  and pouring over fantasy books.  Reading nooks are important spaces both for children and adults. Comfortable and quiet, they allow you to escape into your literature and relax. Ideally, a child's room has space for playing, studying, and reading. Early Zen: ways for kids to chill out

Just like learning to organize and socialize, implementing methods that initiate calm and introspection are practices children need to learn and incorporate in their daily lives.  There are a number of techniques for parents to introduce their kids to that demonstrate the value of slowing down.
